KILOMBERO
TUBERCULOSIS RESEARCH PROJECT (KITUPA) Goal
of the Project: To control the current TB epidemic Phase
A:
To optimize available service for TB and Leprosy.
To study community attitude and perceptions towards TB Phase
B:
To develop, implement and evaluate a CB – DOT program in half the
treatment units by conducting a community (treatment unit) randomized control
pragmatic trial.
To describe the current TB epidemiological situation.
To contribute to the formulation of national policies for the control of
TB. The
project is staffed by the project coordinator and two field officers.
THE
PROJECT COORDINATOR The
present project coordinator is Mr Rashid
A. Khatib who is responsible for: ·
Developing
proposals and carrying out social science aspect of the project. ·
Supervising
the activities of the field officers ·
Coordinating
the activities of the project which are carried out at the data centre and
laboratory at the Centre and Muhimbili reference laboratory ·
Chairing
the project weekly team meetings ·
Being
a secretary of the project monthly meetings ·
Writing
progress reports of the project ·
Keeping
all records of the project ·
Signing
all project administrative documents ·
Controlling
the finances of the project ·
Preparing
financial reports and sending them to donors after every three months ·
Liaising
with other KITUPA members outside the Centre THE FIELD OFFICERSThe
field officers are two Clinical Officers who are Mr Godfrey Ndauka and Mr
Faustin Gabriel.
They are responsible for: · Visiting TB treatment and diagnostic units · Filling in the project weekly supervision forms · Filling in the project’s quarterly report form · Filling in the Clinical Officers laboratory and health units register books · Collecting slides and sputum samples from all diagnostic centres laboratory · Preparing and sending sputum samples to Muhimbili TB reference laboratory · Collecting urine samples from the TB patients and filling in the urine sample collection questionnaire · Supervising availability of TB drugs in all TB treatment units in Kilombero District · Providing health education to laboratory workers and TB in charge in the treatment units · Visiting CB-DOT observers and providing support to them when need arises.
