“To develop and sustain a rural district based health research and development resource center capable of generating new knowledge and relevant information, regarding priority problems in health systems at the district, national and international level through research, training and services aiming at better health and community development.”

  IHRDC Operating Principles

The IHRDC is committed to adhere to the concept of Essential National Health Research (ENHR) which aims at achieving equity in health and development and sees itself as a base for appropriate and relevant research.  The Centre aims at providing affordable solutions for national health problems, advising resource allocations leading to maximum health gain and supporting Primary Health Care implementation within the context of a changing healthcare sector.

  IHRDC Key Objectives

Objective 1:      To strengthen the management efficiency of the Centre in order to ensure financial viability.

  Objective 2:      To undertake interdisciplinary research on household determinants of health and service utilization focusing on risk groups.

Objective 3:      To evaluate efficacy and effectiveness of interventions against major causes of morbidity and mortality.

  Objective 4:      To develop an action research program to strengthen gender sensitivity in health services management and disease control at district level

  Objective 5:      To promote and undertake demand-driven health system research within the context of Health Sector Reform (HSR), or training in health development issues based on the Centre’s comparative advantage and on demand.
